NANNING, March 17 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese medical aid team set off on Wednesday from south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region to the Union of Comoros for a three-month anti-epidemic assistance mission.

The team consists of 12 medical workers in critical care medicine, respiration, public health, laboratory testing, traditional Chinese medicine and other fields from several hospitals in the region.

In addition to dispatching the medical team, Guangxi donated a batch of anti-epidemic materials worth 2 million yuan (about 307,800 U.S. dollars) to Comoros, including masks, protective suits and testing kits.

"Comoros is facing difficulties in the prevention and control of the epidemic. We hope the medical team will wholeheartedly assist Comoros, fully utilize their experience and technological strength, and fight side by side with local medical and health workers," said Huang Junhua, vice chairman of the regional government, at the departure ceremony.

Since 1994, Guangxi has dispatched a total of over 150 medical workers to carry out medical cooperation with Comoros. Enditem
