WINDHOEK, April 8 (Xinhua) -- The first futsal league of Namibia was launched Thursday in Windhoek that will see boys Under-17, Under-19 and ladies teams participating.

According to the founder of Futsal Namibia, Andrei Tirtiran, the league will run from April to May 2021.

"We came up with the idea of starting the futsal league last year but due to COVID-19 we could not. This time around we start with the league and will it be played over 10 weeks. For now we are going to host it in Windhoek, but in the near future we will expand it to other regions or towns as we have been approached by teams from Rundu, northern parts, the South and from the coast," said Tirtiran in an interview with Xinhua.

Futsal is a football game played on a hard court, smaller than a football pitch, and mainly indoors. It has similarities to five-a-side football. Futsal is played between two teams of five players each, one of whom is the goalkeeper. Unlimited substitutions are permitted. Enditem
