ADDIS ABABA, April 16 (Xinhua) -- More than 73,000 individuals have been reprimanded for failing to adhere to COVID-19 health precautions, the Ethiopia Minister of Health Lia Tadesse said on Friday.

Tadesse said the reprimand measures were taken on more than 73,000 individuals for failure to wear face masks and lack of physical distancing.

"30 individuals, 16 institutions and more than 400 business establishments have been brought before court for failing to adhere to COVID-19 health precautions," the Ethiopia Minister of Health disclosed.

In March, the Ethiopia Federal Attorney General Office announced a legal directive was enacted to impose up to three years of imprisonment on those who fail to adhere to COVID-19 health precautions.

Public gatherings of more than 50 people will be banned in the country as part of measures to stop the spread of COVID-19.

The Ethiopia Minister of Health also disclosed its distributing of 215 ventilators, which add to the 19,258 ventilators the country has to treat COVID-19 patients.

Ethiopia has recorded 236,554 COVID-19 cases, including 3,285 COVID-19 related deaths, as of Friday morning. Enditem
