BRAZZAVILLE, May 13 (Xinhua) -- Congolese Prime Minister Anatole Collinet Makosso on Thursday unveiled the priorities of his action for the coming months after he was appointed as the new head of government Wednesday night.

"Economic and social issues are those that a Prime Minister must deal with," he said, noting that issues related to health, education, electricity and access to water in households were on the top of the list.

Aware of the burden on his shoulder at a time when the country is facing the twin crises of the COVID-19 pandemic and economic struggle, the newly-appointed Prime Minister Makosso intends to restore hope to the Congolese.

"Together, through social dialogue, we will be able to see how we can begin to radically address the problems that are currently undermining our country," assured the new prime minister, adding that these problems will only be addressed in good governance.

Replacing Clement Mouamba, who resigned in May 5 after the reelection of Denis Sassou Nguesso as president of the Republic of Congo in March, the new prime minister now has the heavy task of forming the new government.

Speaking of his future Cabinet, Makosso made it clear that he is concentrating on all the problems of the Congolese.

Makosso, 56, was Nguesso's deputy campaign manager in the last presidential election and the minister of primary and secondary education in the outgoing government. He will also implement Nguesso's many campaign promises for the country's younger generation.

"It is a strong symbol and President of the Republic is glad to take this action, a way of showing his commitment to lead our country with intergenerational governance," he said. Enditem
