Uganda's confirmed COVID-19 cases hit 44,074, with 155 new cases

KAMPALA, May 25 (Xinhua) -- Uganda's ministry of health on Tuesday said the east African country has registered 155 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of infections to 44,074.

Out of the 2,428 samples tested on Sunday, 155 contacts and alert cases, 119 of them in the capital, Kampala, turned positive for the novel coronavirus, the ministry said in a statement issued here.

The statement said a total of 43,401 recoveries and 358 deaths have been registered since the outbreak was declared in the country in March last year.

A total of 527,917 people have been vaccinated against COVID-19, with 2,736 of them receiving their second jab of the AstraZeneca vaccine, according to the ministry. Enditem
