6 people die, 40 seriously injured in Zambia road accident

LUSAKA, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- At least six people died while 40 others serious injuries when two vehicles collided in northern Zambia, the police said on Monday.

The accident, which involves a public bus and a truck, occurred on Sunday afternoon along a highway, Great North Road, 35 kilometers north Shiwangandu district.

Danny Mwale, Police Deputy Spokesperson said the accident happened when the truck driver failed to keep to his near side resulting in the bus hitting the rear side of the trailer of the truck, careening off the road before plunging into a dry stream.

The police spokesperson said four died on the spot while two others died at a local hospital where they were rushed.

Police have since launched a manhunt for the truck driver who escaped after the accident while the bus was extensively damaged. Enditem
