MAPUTO, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- The Tropical Storm Ana, which made landfall over Mozambique on Monday morning, has caused two deaths and injured 49 others in the central province of Zambezia, the country's National Institute for Disaster Management (INGD) said in a preliminary assessment on Tuesday.

The two victims were swept to their deaths by the flooded River Licungo in Mocuba, Zambezia due to heavy rain, according to the INGD report.

"The heavy rains caused the Licungo River to exceed the alert level by two meters, putting the districts of Namacura and Maganja da Costa, both in Zambezia, at risk of flooding," says the INGD.

Meteorological authorities have predicted that more than 25,000 families in Sofala, Manica, Zambezia, Nampula and Niassa provinces are likely to be affected by the storm.

The Mozambique Airlines suspended several domestic flights due to the storm on Monday.
