SEOUL, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's export fell for the first 10 days of November on less working days, customs office data showed Monday.
Export, which takes up around half of the export-driven economy, was 15.3 billion U.S. dollars in the first 10 days of November, down 4.8 percent from the same period of last year, according to the Korea Customs Service.
The decline was mainly attributed to less business days. The number of working days in the period was down 0.5 days compared with last year.
The daily average export, which excludes the working-day effect, rose 1.1 percent from a year earlier to 1.91 billion U.S.dollars in the cited period.
Among major export items, oil product export advanced 11.8 percent, with car shipment growing 0.8 percent. Ship export almost tripled in the cited period.
However, exports for semiconductor and telecommunications devices, such as smartphone, shrank 5.4 percent and 8.2 percent, respectively.
Import gained 2.7 percent to 15.7 billion U.S.dollars on higher crude oil price, sending the trade deficit to 395 million U.S.dollars for the first 10 days of November.
