JAKARTA, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian President Joko Widodo has called on authorities to anticipate and prepare for possible hydro-meteorological disasters and impacts of the La Nina phenomenon against a number of sectors in Indonesia.

"Impacts of La Nina against agricultural products must be well calculated. The same must also be done to the sectors of fisheries and transportation," the president told a video cabinet meeting at the state palace here Tuesday.

The head of state said based on the report from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency, the La Nina phenomenon was predicted to cause an increase in the volume of rainfalls by 20 percent to 40 percent in Indonesia.

"(The increase in the volume of monthly rainfalls) by 20 percent to 40 percent is not a small increase," he said, calling on the authorities to distribute the information on weather development to all the provinces in the country as soon as possible.

The agency's head Dwikorita Karnawati said the peak of La Nina was expected to occur between December 2020 and January 2021, along with the onset of the rainy season.

Meanwhile, the peak of the rainy season in Indonesia would be in January and February 2021, and the government through the agency called on the public to be aware of impacts of this condition, Karnawati told a video press conference after attending the cabinet meeting.

The public was also expected to monitor the agency's application system to see weather predictions and early warnings within the next seven days in their respective areas, she said, adding that the weather forecast is updated every three to six hours in one day. Enditem
