Malaysia reports 2,468 new COVID-19 cases, 14 new deaths

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's health ministry on Tuesday reported 2,468 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Southeast Asian country, bringing its total tally to 288,229.

Health Ministry Director-General Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a press statement that four of the new cases were imported and 2,464 were local transmissions.

Another 14 deaths were recorded, bringing the country's COVID-19 death toll to 1,076.

An additional 4,055 patients were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recoveries from the coronavirus epidemic in Malaysia to 256,678 or 89.1 percent of all cases.

Of the existing 30,475 active cases, 196 are being held in intensive care units and 92 of those in need of assisted breathing. Enditem
