BEIJING, March 4 (Xinhua) -- China has been maintaining contacts with all parties in Myanmar and actively promotes easing and cooling down of the situation, a foreign ministry spokesperson said here Thursday.

Spokesperson Wang Wenbin made the remarks at a press briefing while answering a question on the situation in Myanmar.

"As a friendly neighbor of Myanmar, China has been paying close attention to the current situation. The Chinese side calls on all parties to exercise restraint, handle differences properly under the constitutional and legal framework, and maintain political and social stability in Myanmar," said Wang.

He noted that China supports countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to uphold the principles of non-interference in internal affairs and consensus, commit themselves to the unity and cooperation of the ASEAN family, and actively promote the cooling down of tensions in Myanmar in an ASEAN way.

Any action by the international community should contribute to political and social stability in Myanmar and promote its peace and reconciliation, instead of escalating the conflict and complicating the situation, Wang added.

"China would like to continue to play a constructive role in easing and cooling down the situation in Myanmar," he stressed. Enditem
