PHNOM PENH, March 7 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia on Sunday recorded 34 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, bringing its total tally to 987, said the Ministry of Health (MoH).

The new infections included 31 local cases in capital Phnom Penh, Preah Sihanouk province, Kampong Thom province and Prey Veng province and three imported cases, the statement said.

The imported cases were reported in Cambodia's UN peacekeepers returning from the Central African Republic on Feb. 21 via a connecting flight in India, it added.

The Southeast Asian country confirmed the third community COVID-19 outbreak on Feb. 20, with 477 people infected so far. In a bid to contain the outbreak, schools, gyms and entertainment venues as well as dozens of businesses have been temporarily closed.

Cambodia began its COVID-19 vaccination drive on Feb. 10. According to the official data, as of Saturday, some 162,927 people in the priority groups had received the vaccine.

Cambodia has recorded a total of 987 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with zero deaths and 510 recoveries, said the health ministry. Enditem
