TASHKENT, March 24 (Xinhua)-- Uzbekistan will allocate 3 billion U.S. dollars for housing and social development programs to improve the living conditions of the rural population, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said on Wednesday.

"We allocate 31.5 trillion soums (more than 3 billion dollars) to fund the mortgage, prosperous village and prosperous neighborhood programs, as well as building social facility objects," he told a government conference.

Mirziyoyev added that the investment will not increase the country's foreign debt.

Almost two thirds of the fund will be directed towards improving the living conditions of the rural population, the largest sum ever to be allocated for this purpose in the country's history, the state media said.

Since he took office in 2016, Mirziyoyev has undertaken a series of reforms, including policies to eradicate poverty in the country. Enditem
