ULAN BATOR, March 31 (Xinhua) -- The Mongolian government on Wednesday decided to adopt stricter prevention and control measures in the country's capital Ulan Bator due to resurging COVID-19 cases.

The new restrictions will go into effect from Saturday and last for 14 days.

Such services as restaurants, lounges, sauna, cinemas and fitness centers will not be allowed to open during the two weeks.

In addition, hair and beauty salons and major markets in Ulan Bator will not be open over weekends, and other businesses are allowed to operate till 8 p.m.

In mid-March, the country decided to restrict all types of mass events and gatherings such as competitions, concerts, exhibitions and weddings.

In recent days, more than 300 COVID-19 infections have been reported on a daily basis in Mongolia, mostly in Ulan Bator, which is home to over half of the country's 3.3 million population.

As of Wednesday, Mongolia has registered 8,477 COVID-19 cases, and around 7,000 of them were detected in the captial city. Enditem
