Singapore's business sentiment for next six months improve: survey

SINGAPORE, April 30 (Xinhua) -- Business expectations for the six months from April improved among Singapore's manufacturing and services firms, according to survey reports released by Singapore's Economic Development Board (EDB) and Department of Statistics (DOS) on Friday.

The survey released by the EDB on business expectations of the manufacturing sector showed that a weighted 41 percent of Singaporean manufacturers believe business conditions will improve, while a weighted 3 percent foresee a weaker business outlook.

Overall, a net weighted balance of 38 percent of manufacturers anticipates a more favorable business situation for the second and third quarters of 2021, compared to the first quarter. That is an improvement from the figure in the similar survey released in January which showed a net weighted balance of 32 percent of manufacturers predicted a more favorable business situation for the first half of 2021, compared to the fourth quarter of 2020.

The survey report released by the DOS on business expectations of the services sector, which showed that a weighted 20 percent of the services firms are optimistic about the business conditions in the six months beginning April, while a weighted 9 percent foresee slower business activities. Overall, a net weighted balance of 11 percent of the services firms anticipate more favorable business conditions for the second and third quarters of 2021.

In the survey report released in January, a net weighted balance of 7 percent of services firms anticipated more favorable business conditions for the first half of 2021. Enditem
