ULAN BATOR, May 24 (Xinhua) -- Mongolia on Monday officially launched the campaign for the country's presidential election scheduled for June 9.

The country's General Election Commission has registered three politicians, namely Ukhnaa Khurelsukh, chairman of the ruling Mongolian People's Party, Sodnomzundui Erdene, former chairman of the opposition Democratic Party, and Dangaasuren Enkhbat, a former legislator, as presidential candidates, and handed over candidacy cards to them on Monday.

During the launching ceremony of the election campaign, Khurelsukh, 52, promised to build a law-based society and further promote national unity.

He said a natural resource fund would be established to provide revenue derived from natural resources equally to every citizen of Mongolia, promote the country's development and raise living standards.

"If I am elected president, I will make all possible efforts to further expand Mongolia's reputation in the international arena," he added.

Erdene, 58, promised to do his best to protect Mongolia's core interests, human rights, freedoms, and private property, as well as strengthen the rule of law.

Enkhbat, a 62-year-old candidate from Mongolia's political alliance the Right Person Electorate Coalition, pledged to be a staunch supporter of sustainable development, an innovation-driven economy and foreign relationships that meet common international standards.

According to the amendment to the Constitution of Mongolia that came into force in May 2020, future presidents of the Asian country will be limited to a single six-year term instead of the previous renewable four-year term. Enditem
