HANOI, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- The 20th "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students concluded its final round of the northern and central Vietnam section on Wednesday.

Organized by the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam and held by the Confucius Institute at Hanoi University, the competition took place via video link amid COVID-19 concerns across the country.

A total of 23 students from 19 universities in northern and central Vietnam competed in the final round, which was divided into three parts, including a themed speech, a talent show and an impromptu speech.

Nguyen Thi Ha Ngan from the University of Languages and International Studies of Vietnam National University won the contests.

"I was attached to Chinese five years ago when I was in high school, and I believe the bond will stay for a very long time," Ngan said, adding that she will focus more on the exchanges with other competitors in the upcoming international phase of the competition.

Prior to the event, Peng Shituan, cultural counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam, said in a speech that despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the bilateral relations between China and Vietnam have remained solid, creating great prospects for those working in the exchanges between the countries.

Nguyen Thi Cuc Phuong, the vice-rector of Hanoi University, said that the growing number of Chinese learners in Vietnam is closely related to the growing exchanges between the two countries in economy, trade and culture, and is necessary for promoting the Vietnam-China relations.

Also on Wednesday, the final round in the Vietnam section of the 14th "Chinese Bridge" competition for secondary school students was held via video link.

Le Vu Thanh Thao from the northern city of Hai Phong stood out from the 11 contestants representing six Vietnamese secondary schools and won the contests. Enditem
