Malaysia reports 17,577 new COVID-19 cases, 388 more deaths

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia reported another 17,577 new COVID-19 infections as of midnight Friday, bringing the national total to 2,067,327, according to the health ministry.

Three of the new cases are imported and 17,574 are local transmissions, according to data released by the ministry.

Another 388 deaths were also recorded, bringing the death toll to 22,743.

As many as 22,970 more patients were released after recovery, bringing the total number of cured and discharged to 1,823,245.

Of the remaining 221,339 active cases, 1,204 are being held in intensive care units and 708 of those are in need of assisted breathing.

The country administered 238,002 doses of COVID-19 vaccines on Friday, and so far some 66.9 percent of the population have received at least one dose and 55.5 percent have been fully vaccinated. Enditem
