Vietnam logs fewest daily COVID-19 cases since Aug. 11

HANOI, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam reported 8,537 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, the lowest daily number since Aug. 11, according to the country's Ministry of Health.

The new infections included 8,530 locally transmitted and seven imported, taking the country's total tally to 736,972, with 18,220 deaths, the ministry said.

Most of the community cases were detected in southern localities, including 3,786 in the epicenter Ho Chi Minh City, 2,978 in the nearby Binh Duong province, and 803 in Dong Nai province.

As many as 505,859 COVID-19 patients have so far recovered, up 12,371 from Thursday, while nearly 36.8 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered nationwide, according to the ministry.

As of Friday, Vietnam has registered a total of 732,492 locally transmitted COVID-19 cases since the start of the current wave in late April, the ministry said. Enditem
