Total COVID-19 cases rise to 7,716 in Brunei

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- Brunei reported 148 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, bringing the national tally to 7,716.

According to Brunei's Ministry of Health, all the new cases are local infections. While the source of infection of 58 local cases is still under investigation, six new clusters have been detected and two clusters have been closed as no new detected cases were reported in the clusters for 28 days, which brings the total number of active clusters to 136.

There are currently 2,335 active cases being treated and monitored at the National Isolation Center. A total of 5,325 recovered patients and 56 deaths have been reported so far in the country.

The health ministry also said that as of Oct. 2, 302,258 individuals have received the first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine under the National Vaccination Program, which is 66.6 percent of the total population.

Meanwhile, 199,576 individuals have completed the second doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, which is 44 percent of the total population.

Brunei is stepping up efforts to achieve the target of fully vaccinating at least 80 percent of the population before the end of 2021. Enditem
