Pakistan's daily new COVID-19 cases cross 1,000-mark after 3 months

ISLAMABAD, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan reported more than 1,000 new COVID-19 cases during the past 24 hours after a period of nearly three months, the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) said on Thursday.

The NCOC said the country confirmed 1,085 new COVID-19 cases, increasing the overall cases to 1,299,848 so far, including 1,257,847 recoveries.

Earlier, the country had reported 1,086 cases on Oct. 14 last year after which the infection rate started dropping.

Pakistan's number of active cases has also surged to 13,046 including 636 with critical conditions.

According to the NCOC data, the pandemic killed five people on Wednesday, increasing the overall death toll to 28,955.

Pakistan's southern Sindh province is the most affected region of the country in terms of the number of cases with 484,226 infections followed by the eastern Punjab province which has reported 446,300 cases. Enditem
