JAKARTA, March 7 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia on Monday confirmed 21,380 new COVID-19 cases, raising its tally of infections to 5,770,105, the country's Health Ministry said.

According to the ministry, the death toll from COVID-19 in the country rose by 258 to 150,430, while 48,800 more people recovered from the disease during the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries to 5,171,402.

As the Indonesian government is accelerating its national vaccination programs to curb the spread of the virus, more than 192.06 million people have received their first dose of vaccines, while over 148.02 million have taken the second dose.

The Indonesian government announced Monday that spectators of the 2022 Motorcycle Grand Prix in the country's West Nusa Tenggara province are not required to take COVID-19 tests as long as they have been fully vaccinated.

"This is because the vaccination rate in the province has reached 92.5 percent for the first doses, and 70.6 percent for the second doses," the country's Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said in a press release.

Indonesia started mass COVID-19 vaccinations in January last year after the authorities approved the emergency use of the Chinese Sinovac vaccine.

Aiming to fully vaccinate 208.26 million people in the country, the government has administered over 352.57 million doses, including the third booster jabs.
