HANOI, Dec. 27 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam aims to increase total export turnover in 2024 by about 6 percent compared to 2023 and maintain a trade surplus of about 15 billion U.S. dollars for the ninth consecutive year, Vietnam News has reported, citing the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
However, to reach this target next year, Vietnam is forecast to face many difficulties and challenges as the export value target of 6 percent in 2023 has not been completed, according to the report on Tuesday.
The country's export value in 2023 is estimated to reach about 355 billion dollars, down 4.5 percent year on year.
Nguyen Cam Trang, deputy director of the ministry's Import-Export Department, said to achieve the export growth target of 6 percent next year, the ministry will promote negotiations and signing of new agreements, commitments, and trade links with other potential partners, such as the United Arab Emirates and South America, to diversify markets, products and supply chains.
According to the ministry, in 2023, Vietnam has run a trade surplus for eight years in a row, estimated at a record high of nearly 30 billion dollars, nearly three times higher than in 2022. ■
