More than 1800 foreign dairy producer approved in China

BEIJING, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) -- China has approved the registration of 1,836 overseas milk producers including 64 baby formula makers at the end of last year, according to the country's quality watchdog on Friday.

China banned the imports of unregistered foreign dairy products last May with the aim to ensuring food safety.

The country's top accreditation watchdog will keep real-time supervision over registered foreign milk producers, conduct checks and punish those which violate food safety regulations.

China has seen growing demands for safe and high-quality milk products after a tainted baby formula scandal in 2008 dented society's confidence in domestic dairy food safety.


Chilean dairy cows shipped to Tianjin

TIANJIN, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- More than 7,100 dairy cows imported from Chile were shipped to north China's Tianjin on Wednesday, making the South American country the fifth to export dairy cows to China after Australia, New Zealand, Uruguay and Romania.

The shipment of 30,000 cows was the first to be exported by Chile to China according to a bilateral agreement signed last year. Full Story

Chinese ministry to help dairy farmers amid milk dumping, cow killing

BEIJING, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- The Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) said Sunday that it would help dairy farmers in northern China who have resorted to throwing out milk and killing their cows through lack of sales avenues.

The ministry encourages dairy firms to increase purchasing, starts dairy production monitoring on a weekly basis, and strengthens policy support for the dairy industry, the ministry said in a statement. Full Story
