Mobile hospital deployed in western Ukraine to handle influx of COVID-19 patients

KIEV, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- A COVID-19 mobile hospital was set up on Saturday due to the worsening epidemiological situation in Ivano-Frankivsk region in western Ukraine, the press service of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional State Administration reported.

The hospital will help free up space in Bogorodchansk central regional hospital, where 84 COVID-19 patients are being treated and all the beds have been occupied.

The mobile hospital can accommodate up to 120 beds with all the equipment needed to provide medical care to COVID-19 patients.

According to the head of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional State Administration Andriy Boychuk, the mobile hospital will be able to receive the first patients in nine days.

Ivano-Frankivsk region has recorded the largest number of patients with coronavirus infection for several days in a row and restrictions have been enforced to combat the pandemic including the closure of cinemas, theaters, nightclubs, and other entertainment venues and prohibition of mass events in the region.

A total of 1,299,967 COVID-19 cases and 25,045 deaths have been registered in Ukraine as of Saturday, while 1,144,516 patients have recovered, according to health authorities. Enditem
