BERLIN, April 16 (Xinhua) -- Volkswagen Group's global deliveries rose 21.2 percent year-on-year to 2.43 million vehicles between January and March, Germany's largest carmaker announced on Friday.

The result was driven by the carmaker's performance in China where 990,600 vehicles were delivered during that period, up by 61.4 percent year-on-year. Of Volkswagen Group's vehicles delivered in the first quarter, almost 41 percent were in China.

Volkswagen Group deliveries in North America and South America from January to March also recovered, up by 16.1 percent and 10.3 percent respectively.

In the Western Europe region, however, deliveries fell by 4.6 percent year-on-year to 735,000 vehicles during the period.

The Volkswagen Group's sports car brand Porsche and its luxury brand Audi performed the best, and increased their total deliveries from January to March by 35.5 percent and 31.1 percent respectively. Enditem
