Bulgaria records second-highest daily death toll since start of pandemic

SOFIA, April 20 (Xinhua) -- Bulgaria's COVID-19 death toll has risen to 15,412 after 217 new deaths were reported in the past 24 hours, official data showed on Tuesday.

This is the second-highest daily death toll since the onset of the pandemic in the country.

The highest daily increase of 221 deaths was reported last year.

Meanwhile, the number of confirmed infections rose by 2,434 to 388,815, according to the country's COVID-19 information portal.

During the same period, 4,244 people recovered from the disease, raising the total to 310,922.

The current numbers of COVID-19 hospitalizations and intensive-care patients stand at 8,834 and 780, respectively.

Additionally, 7,044 doses of coronavirus vaccines were administered in Bulgaria in the past 24 hours, taking the total number to 645,486. Enditem
