BERLIN, June 4 (Xinhua) -- Germany's seven-day incidence of COVID-19 infections fell below the benchmark of 30 for the first time since mid-October last year, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) announced on Friday.

Daily infections also declined as 3,165 cases were registered on Friday, according to RKI, the federal government agency for disease control and prevention. At the peak of the third wave, more than 30,000 daily infections were reported in Germany.

"We need to work together globally to really get COVID-19 under control," said Minister of Health Jens Spahn from a meeting of G7 health ministers in England via Twitter on Thursday.

"We rely on international cooperation in the production and distribution of vaccines," said Spahn. "It is in our own interest to supply Africa and Asia with vaccines quickly. Because we are only safe when everyone is safe."

Over 16.7 million people in Germany had been fully vaccinated as of Thursday, bringing the country's vaccination rate to 20.1 percent, the RKI data showed. More than 37.4 million people had received at least one vaccine dose. Enditem
