KIEV, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- The Ukrainian Naval Forces held a passing exercise (PASSEX) in the Black Sea with the Georgian Coast Guard and the Georgian Border Police, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry said in a statement Monday.

The naval drills included training on tactical maneuvering, rescuing a person who fell overboard, transferring cargo and practical towing.

An island-class patrol boat "Sloviansk" of the Ukrainian Naval Forces, the "Ochamchire" vessel of the Georgian Coast Guard and the patrol boat "Sukhumi" of the Georgian Border Police were involved.

The main goal of the exercises is to maintain security in the Black Sea and to enhance the skills and interoperability of the Ukrainian and Georgian naval personnel, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry said.

Ukraine holds PASSEX naval drills in the Black Sea periodically with North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) members and partner countries to bring the level of its naval forces closer to the alliance's standards. In June 2020, Ukraine was granted the status of a partner in the NATO Enhanced Opportunities Program. Enditem
