NEW YORK, April 13 (Xinhua) -- The COVID-19 hospitalizations in New York State (NYS) rose to 4,175 on Monday, compared with 4,118 one day earlier, tweeted Governor Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the single-day COVID-19 test positivity rate went up to 3.90 percent on Monday from 3.75 percent on Sunday, he said, adding that there were 58 COVID-19 deaths in the state on Monday, the same as one day earlier.
In another tweet on Tuesday, Cuomo said that "38.6% of New Yorkers have received at least one vaccine dose and 25.5% have completed their vaccine series. 219,846 total doses were administered over the past 24 hours. 12,253,659 total doses administered to date."
Also on Tuesday, NYS Health Commissioner Howard Zucker announced that "Today the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) and FDA (Food and Drug Administration) issued a statement recommending a pause in the use of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine out of an abundance of caution. New York State will follow the CDC and FDA recommendation and pause the use of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine statewide immediately today while these health and safety agencies evaluate next steps. All appointments for Johnson & Johnson vaccines today at New York State mass vaccination sites will be honored with the Pfizer vaccine."
"As the CDC and FDA have said, any adverse events related to the Johnson & Johnson vaccine 'appear to be extremely rare' and, 'People who have received the J&J vaccine who develop severe headache, abdominal pain, leg pain, or shortness of breath within three weeks after vaccination should contact their health care provider'," he added.
As of Tuesday afternoon, the total COVID-19 deaths in New York State reached 51,238, the second worst in the country following the state of California with a death toll of 60,514, according to the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University. Enditem
