CHICAGO, March 29 (Xinhua) -- Gold futures on the COMEX division of the New York Mercantile Exchange fell on Tuesday as Russia-Ukraine peace talks showed progress.

The most active gold contract for June delivery fell 26.7 U.S. dollars, or 1.37 percent, to close at 1,918 dollars per ounce.

Russia and Ukraine held a fresh round of face-to-face peace talks in Istanbul on Tuesday, and Russian delegates said Moscow would scale down its military operations in Ukraine, boosting investors' risk appetite.

Positive economic figures released on Tuesday further dampened gold.

The Case-Shiller national home price index grew 19.2 percent between January 2021 and January 2022. Market analysts note this represents a high rate of home-price growth in the United States.

U.S. Department of Labor reported that U.S. job openings edged lower to about 11.27 million in February, about 5 million more than the level of unemployed workers. Meanwhile, 4.35 million workers quitted for better paying jobs, a sign of a healthy economy.

Silver for May delivery fell 46 cents, or 1.83 percent, to close at 24.736 dollars per ounce. Platinum for July delivery fell 15 dollars, or 1.51 percent, to close at 978.8 dollars per ounce.
