    JOSEMOURINHO has been handed a £30million war chest to win the battle with Manchester United over Wayne Rooney.

    And the Chelsea boss is willing to go to the wire on transfer deadline day to sign the unsettled star.

    Mourinho revealed: “The club is in a very good balance with salaries, income, outcome. So not to break the balance in our numbers and to still invest in a player that costs £20m, £25m, £30m — the club is ready for that.

    “Do we need to sell first? No, no, no, we don’t need to sell.”

    Mourinho did not mention Rooney by name because he is desperate not to antagonise United.

    But he maintains the 27-year-old is his ONLY target this summer.

    So when he talks transfers he must be talking about Rooney!

    Like when asked if Chelsea could afford to splash £50m on a forward, Mourinho replied cryptically: “The striker I want doesn’t cost £50m, doesn’t cost £40m.”

    And when quizzed over whether he could do business on September 2, when the transfer window shuts, he added: “That’s why it is open.”

    So Blues are resigned to a slow stalking game with United, who are unlikely to sell their star before Chelsea visit Old Trafford on August 26 — just a week before the window closes.
