MADRID, March 3 (Xinhua) -- Two women described as being of "sub-Saharan origin" are confirmed by Spanish police sources as having drowned while attempting to enter the Spanish north African enclave of Ceuta in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The incident happened shortly after 06:30 a.m. local time when a small rubber dinghy with an outboard motor was observed leaving a beach in the Moroccan town of Beliones carrying four people despite high winds and rough seas.

The dinghy overturned in the high wave as it was approaching the Benzu beach in Ceuta, throwing the people onboard in water.

A man and a woman swam to land and were treated for hypothermia before being taken to University Hospital in Ceuta.

However, rescue to the other two women failed. The bodies were recovered from the sea by the Specialist Group of Underwater Activity (GEAS).
