KATHMANDU, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- Seven children and a woman were killed following landslides triggered by torrential rainfall in mid-western Nepal on Sunday, local authorities involved in rescue operations said.

Krishna Prasad Khatiwada, assistant chief at the district administration office in Jajarkot, told Xinhua over the phone that eight bodies were recovered from under the rubble of two houses at Thatibazar area of Jajarkot District.

People living in another six houses of the same village, who were at high risk of landslides, have been rescued and temporarily shifted to a nearby village, Khatiwada said.

Another person has gone missing in the incident as the rescue operation is underway.

Local authorities have been carrying out rescue operations in coordination with local residents and security agencies, he added.

The remote village lies in the mid-western part of Nepal, some 350 km west of the capital Kathmandu.

Nepal's Department of Hydrology and Meteorology said that rainfall would remain active for the next few days, urging all to maintain high alert to cope with natural disasters.

The flood forecasting division has been sending early warning flood alert messages amid the heavy rainfall in different parts of the country, the division said on Twitter.

During the annual monsoon season this year, many districts in Nepal have been struggling to cope with heavy rains.

According to the latest data by National Emergency Operation Centre under the Ministry of Home Affairs, at least 65 people lost their lives and 363 families have been displaced due to the landslides triggered by incessant rainfalls in this monsoon season.
