GUANGZHOU, May 9 (Xinhua) -- China has more than 150 million users of 4K set-top boxes, as the ultra-high definition video industry develops rapidly in the country, according to data released at an industry meeting Thursday.
The sales of ultra-high definition TVs accounted for 67 percent of total TV sales in 2018, experts said at the 2019 World Conference on Ultra HD video (4K/8K) Industry held in Guangzhou, capital of southern China's Guangdong Province.
Since 2018, China Media Group and Guangdong Television have both opened ultra HD 4K channels. In February, China released a plan for developing the ultra HD video industry.
Ultra HD video is expected to be an important gauge of use for the 5G network after the technology is commercialized, experts said.
The conference is jointly organized by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, National Radio and Television Administration, China Media Group and Guangdong Provincial People's Government.
