JERUSALEM, May 6 (Xinhua) -- Israeli Super League basketball club Hapoel Tel Aviv announced Monday the signing of former NBA player Tyler Ennis.

The 29-year-old Canadian point guard began the current season with Napoli Basket and, in February, led the team to its first-ever Italian Cup title with a 77-72 victory over Olimpia Milano. Ennis scored 21 points in the final game and added seven rebounds and seven assists.

In Hapoel, Ennis will replace point guards J'Covan Brown, who is suffering a serious injury, and Will Cummings, who left Israel in mid-April due to the security situation in the country.

Ennis played college basketball at Syracuse University and was selected by the Phoenix Suns as the 18th overall pick in the 2014 NBA draft.

His four-season NBA career includes 186 games with Phoenix, Milwaukee Bucks, Houston Rockets, and Los Angeles Lakers, averaging 4.2 points and 1.9 assists in 12.6 minutes per game.

Between 2018 and 2023, Ennis played for Fenerbahce, Turk Telekom, and Tofas S.K. of the Turkish Super League.

"Tyler is coming to help us in a critical period with a sequence of decisive games in a short time," said Hapoel Tel Aviv head coach Stefanos Dedas. "He is a great player that brings professionalism and character."

Hapoel is currently ranked second in the Israeli league, with an 18-6 win-loss record, with five rounds remaining before the 8-team playoffs.
