RABAT, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- Morocco and Russia have pledged to boost bilateral trade relations during an economic forum between businessmen from the two countries in the southern city of Agadir on Thursday.

Speaking at the opening of the forum, which is attended by some 40 Russian businessmen, Viktor Evtukhov, deputy minister of industry and trade of the Russian federation, said this forum offers a precious opportunity to discuss various projects to achieve the target.

The Moroccan Minister of Economy and Finance Mohamed Boussaid said although Morocco remains a top African trade partner of Russia, bilateral trade ties do not live up to the aspirations of both countries.

He also highlighted the various economic opportunities offered to Russian businessmen in different economic sectors.

Meanwhile, President of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises Meriem Bensalah Chaqroun expected the bilateral trade turnover to reach 3 billion U.S. dollars by the end of this year.

The forum comes after the visit by Morocco's King Mohammed VI to Moscow last March, which aimed to further diversify Morocco's economic partnership.
