BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- The Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah touched down in Brunei Tuesday afternoon for his first state visit to the sultanate.
Sheikh Sabah was received by Brunei's Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, Prince Abdul Malik and other government officials at the Brunei International Airport.
Haji Hassanal Bolkiah also held a ceremony at the Istana Nurul Iman palace to welcome the Kuwait Emir's state visit. The two leaders then had a meeting to discuss bilateral relations as well as regional and global issues.
Brunei's monarch will also host a state banquet for the Emir, who is leading a delegation of over 80 officials, dignitaries and royal family members.
The Kuwaiti embassy in Bandar Seri Begawan said that a number of agreements will be signed between the two countries in the fields of education, research, tourism, trade and bilateral cooperation.
Brunei established diplomatic relations with Kuwait in 1990 and is due to host the 3rd biennial Kuwait-Brunei Joint Committee meeting in the capital in December this year. The two countries have several bilateral agreements in place covering oil and gas cooperation, taxation, investment, air services, and economic and technical cooperation.
