NAIROBI, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- Kenya's security officer on Thursday shot dead a man of Somali origin outside the United States embassy in Nairobi.
Gigiri divisional police commander Vitalis Otieno said the man had grabbed one of the officers manning the entrance gate to the visa section and stabbed him, injuring him in the head and hand.
In self-defence, the injured police officer shot and killed the man, Otieno said, adding that the motive of the assailant is still under investigation.
Otieno told Xinhua that the unidentified man had other accomplices who ran away from the scene.
The U.S. embassy also confirmed the incident, saying no embassy personnel was injured.
