MARRAKECH, Morocco, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) -- The president of the 22nd Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP22) on Monday commended China for its "strong" and "concrete" commitment to addressing climate change.

China not only contributes to international efforts to cope with climate change through talks, but also takes concrete actions, Salaheddine Mezouar told a high-level event here on the sidelines of a United Nations climate conference.

He noted China's early ratification of the Paris Agreement, and its active and strong support for developing countries in coping with climate change.

The forum, co-organized by China, Morocco and the United Nations, brought together senior UN officials and ministers from more than a dozen countries. The participants will discuss the role of South-South cooperation in addressing climate change and building the capacity of developing countries and explore ways of financing for climate efforts and sustainable development.

Mezouar, who also serves as Moroccan foreign minister, said that South-South cooperation is "helpful" and "complementary" to global efforts to deal with climate changes.

The COP22 president said negotiations at the conference are proceeding in a spirit of cooperation, stressing the host country's priority is to turn climate initiatives launched at the COP21 into concrete projects.
