ALGIERS, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- Algeria on Saturday condemned the terrorist attack against a military detachment in northern Burkina Faso on Friday.

"Algiers vigorously condemns the despicable terrorist attack perpetrated Friday against a military detachment in the city of Nassoumbou," spokesman for the Algerian Foreign Ministry, Benali Cherif, told APS news agency.

"We offer our condolences to the families of the soldiers killed in this attack and we extend our deep sympathy and solidarity with the people and the government of Burkina Faso," added the diplomat.

Such attacks "should not undermine the determination of Burkina Faso and its neighboring nations in terms of the fight against the scourge of terrorism, which has no future in our African continent," said the official.

Some 15 counter-terrorism troops of Bourkina Faso's army were killed when an armed group attacked their post near the Malian border on Friday, local sources reported.
