Climate: Moderate to temperate to cold. Average of 0 to -20 in winter, Temperature of +10 to +25 in summer(Celsius)

Government: Constitutional monarchy, a federal state and parliamentary democracy

Languages: Two official languages, English and French

System of Law: Civil law and Common law. In 1982, the Charter of Rights and Freedoms was entrenched in the constitution.

Canada's five major export markets are: the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, Germany and China. The five leading merchandise exports (1992) were: passenger cars, trucks, motor vehicle parts, crude petroleum and softwood lumber. The five major suppliers of goods (1992) are the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, Germany and Mexico. The five leading merchandiseimports (l992) were: motor vehicle parts, excluding engines, passenger cars, electronic computers, electonic tunes and semi-conductors, and crude petroleum. Tourism to Canada accounted for $7.7 billion in 1993.
The unemployment rate at present stands at a seasonally-adjusted 11.2%. The rate of inflation is 1.7%.
