Mount Taishan is located in the center of Shandong Province spanning
the cities of Taian and Jinan, extending for a total area of 250 kilometers.
It was known in ancient times as Daishan and revered as the East Sacred
Mountain. Mount Taishan is a symbol of loftiness and grandeur with
abruptly rising majestic peaks and crests. Its sceneries are spectacular.
Many Chinese emperors including Qin Shi Huang, Wu Di of Han, Xuan
Zong of Tang and Qian Long of Qing held grand sacrificial ceremonies
on its summit. All through the dynasties 72 emperors had come here
to offer sacrifices to heaven and earth.

Mount Taishan boasts of a wealth of natural legacies. A large number
of scenic spots were given names since ancient times. They include
112 peaks, 98 precipitous ridges, 18 rock caves, 58 odd shaped rocks,
102 streams and valleys, 56 pools and waterfalls, 64 springs. It
has 989 species of plants falling into 114 families, and a vegetation
of coverage of 79.9 percent. With cultural legacies handing down
through thousands of year, the scenic area houses 22 groups of ancient
architectures, 97 ancient remains, 819 commemorative stone tablets
and 1,800 inscribed rocks. They are a natural museum for the study
of ancient Chinese History and calligraphy. Its main sits of interest
include Hall of Heavenly Blessing, South Gate to Heaven, Azure Cloud
Temple, Sun Watching Peak, Sutra Rock Valley and Black Dragon Pool.
Mount Taishan is a famed Sacred Mountain valuable in aesthetics,
science and cultural history.
