ANKARA, June 8 (Xinhua) -- Turkish warplanes on Tuesday conducted air operations against Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) targets in southeastern Turkish province of Diyarbakir and northern Iraq, Turkish General Staff stated on Wednesday.

The Turkish jets hit the PKK positions in rural place of lice town in Diyarbakir and Qandil region of northern Iraq, according the statement from General staff.

The Chief Army also stated that 22 PKK militants were killed in the air attacks to PKK targets in northern Iraq on June 5.

Following the collapse of a de-facto cease-fire last July, the PKK resumed attacks on Turkish security forces particularly in the country's Kurdish southeast.

Over 500 members of the security forces have since lost their lives, while over 4,000 PKK militants were killed, according to official statements.
