At least 15 dead in Nigeria road accident

ABUJA, March 13 (Xinhua) -- Nigeria's road safety police on Monday said an investigation is underway to ascertain the cause of a road accident on Sunday, in which at least 15 people died, in the country's northeast region.

A truck conveying passengers and cows plunged into a drying river after it lost control on a bridge linking Yola, the capital of the northeastern state of Adamawa, late on Sunday, according to a statement by the Federal Road Safety Corps.

Local police said 28 injured people were rescued and taken to various hospitals within the state for treatment.

An eyewitness told Xinhua the driver of the truck had lost control while at top speed, causing him to plunge into the river.
