WINDHOEK, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) -- Botswana's President Seretse Khama Ian Khama will be in Namibia on a state visit from Feb. 5 to 6, at the invitation of Namibia's President Hage Geingob.

Namibia's Minister of Presidential Affairs, Frans Kapofi said in a media statement on Friday that during his visit, the two Heads of State will hold discussions regarding bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

"Namibia welcomes this visit and views it as an opportunity to further strengthen the already existing cordial relations between Namibia and Botswana for the benefit of the people of the two countries," he said.

According to Kapofi, the bilateral relations between Namibia and Botswana are founded on strong political, economic, cultural and historic ties. The existence of these ties has contributed to increased trade between the two countries.

"In 2016, Botswana was Namibia's third trading partner, which is a great achievement, and a reflection of how bilateral cooperation between the two countries has evolved over the years," he added.

Currently Botswana and Namibia have two mechanisms that enable the existing strong bilateral relations to flourish, namely the Namibia/Botswana Joint Commission of Cooperation, and the Namibia/Botswana Joint Permanent Commission on Defence and Security (JPCDS).

Kapofi further said that during the visit, the two presidents are expected to sign the Boundary Treaty between Namibia and Botswana.

Meanwhile, the Southern African Customs Union (SACU) Secretariat will also host the visiting Head of State, in his capacity as the Chairperson of the SACU Summit on Feb. 5 in Windhoek.
