RABAT, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- The Moroccan security services seized 4 tons of cannabis in the northern city of El Jadida, local authorities said on Wednesday.

The police inspected the traffickers while they were loading the banned substance from a truck in a local beach, the same source pointed out.

Two people were arrested during this operation, it noted.

Security services also seized two inflatable boats and a sand loader, it added.

Despite efforts to crack down on cannabis farming in the past decade, Morocco remains the world's largest cannabis resin harvester.

According to the 2016 report by the UN's Office on Drugs and Crime, Morocco ranks first among 129 cannabis producing countries throughout the period from 2009 to 2014, followed by Afghanistan, Lebanon and India.
