Kenyan bourse trading bland despite political truce

NAIROBI, March 12 (Xinhua) -- Turnover at the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) on Monday slid as trading remained stifled despite a stable political environment following talks between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his rival in last year's polls, Raila Odinga.

Turnover declined to 7.3 million U.S. dollars due to a downswing in volumes traded, which stood at 19 million shares, down from 30 million shares worth 9.7 million dollars traded last Friday.

Safaricom was the most traded stock, moving 6.2 million shares, followed by Kenya Commercial Bank with 3.9 million shares.

Equity Bank, Housing Finance and CIC Insurance traded 2.4 million, 2.1 million and 684,400 shares respectively.

The NSE 20 Share Index was, however, rose 5.24 points to close at 3,725.44 while the NSE All Share Index was up 0.65 points to close at 181.25 points.

The NSE 25 Share Index surged 21.45 points to close at 4,630.88.

At the bond market, turnover went up by 9.4 percent to stand at 33 million dollars, from 30 million dollars in the last session on Friday.
