Rwanda's economy grows 6.1 pct in 2017

KIGALI, March 13 (Xinhua) -- Rwanda's economy grew at 6.1 percent in 2017, exceeding previous projection of 5.2 percent, according to official figures released on Tuesday in Kigali.

The growth was driven by performance of the agriculture sector which contributed 31 percent, industry sector, 16 percent and services sector which contributed 46 percent, statistics from the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR) showed.

The GDP of Rwanda was estimated at 7,597 billion Rwanda francs (about 9 billion U.S. dollars) in 2017, up from 6,672 billion francs (about 7.8 dollars) in 2016, the figures showed.

The NISR also revealed the GDP growth in the fourth quarter of 2017 registered at 10.5 percent. The sectors of agriculture and industry grew 10 percent respectively, while the services sector grew 11 percent.
