HARARE, March 14 (Xinhua) -- United Nations Development Program administrator Achim Steiner arrived in Zimbabwe Thursday on a three-day visit, the first by a top UN official since the change of government in the country last November.
A statement issued by the UN Resident Coordinator's Office spokesperson Sirak Gebrehiwot Tuesday night said Steiner would meet President Emmerson Mnangagwa and other senior officials, including vice presidents Constantino Chiwenga and Kembo Mohadi.
"He will also meet a number of independent commissions, including the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission, the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission and the Gender Commission," Gebrehiwot said.
On Friday, he will deliver a keynote address at the launch of the National Human Development report on Climate Change in Harare.
His visit comes at a time the country is preparing for harmonized presidential and general elections to be held between July and August.
